The award-winning Get Set for School Pre-K program uses lively music and playful activities to help young children build a solid foundation for school success.

This upbeat workshop introduces a readiness curriculum full of developmentally appropriate activities that teach children about letters, body awareness, numbers, sequencing, and sharing in a fun, engaging, and informal manner.

The Get Set for School Pre-K Readiness & Writing workshop is an introductory level class.

Pre-K Readiness & Writing Workshop Objectives

At the end of the Get Set for School® Pre-K Readiness & Writing Workshop, you will be able to:

  • Plan your instruction based on the developmental stages for drawing and writing readiness
  • Learn our unique approach to effectively teach coloring skills and a correct and effective crayon grip with singing and modeling
  • Promote capital and lowercase letter recognition with music and hands-on play
  • Use Wood Piece play to teach size, shape, and position concepts for pre-writing as well as social-emotional skills
  • Build beginning habits for letter/number formation with multisensory letter play activities that teach social skills, body awareness, counting and pre-handwriting
  • Identify how to use My First School Book to help children progress from tracing their letters and numbers to writing their names

8:30 a.m. Get Set for School: Understand how we use a hands-on multisensory readiness curriculum to prepare children for school success.
9:00 a.m. Pre-K Readiness: Importance of social skills and the developmental stages of writing. Discover how to develop hand skills and teach crayon grip.
9:30 a.m. Drawing: Importance of social skills and the developmental stages of writing. Discover how to develop hand skills and teach crayon grip.
10:00 a.m. Break
10:15 a.m. Alphabet Knowledge: Use hands-on materials and My First School Book to teach Capital and lowercase letter recognition.
10:30 a.m. Colors and Coloring: Understand how to teach crayon skills. Learn how children progress developmentally from scribbling to coloring and drawing.
10:45 a.m. Pre-Writing: Discover how Wood Piece play is used to teach capital letters. Use multisensory activities to teach children their capital letters.
11:00 a.m. Writing: Identify the developmental teaching order. Identify how to teach children to trace capital letters, write their names, and build number skills and formation.
11:45 a.m. Review and Resources: Review what you have learned. Identify how to check readiness. Locate additional resources for continued learning.
12:00 p.m.

Certificate of Attendance for 3.25 Contact Hours. Adjourn.
