Denise Donica, DHS, OTR/L, BCP

Dr. Denise Donica completed her Doctor of Health Science and Master of Health Science in occupational therapy at the University of Indianapolis in 2007 and 2005 respectively. She also holds a bachelors degree in psychology/criminal justice and occupational therapy from Indiana University. Dr. Donica is an Assistant Professor in the Occupational Therapy Department at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. Dr. Donica’s focus of clinical practice has been with the pediatric population through school system and outpatient practice. She has been using the Handwriting Without Tears® curriculum since 2002 and is a Level 1 certified handwriting specialist through HWT. She is currently a consultant and National Workshop Presenter. She has been involved with implementing community-based programs to facilitate handwriting development in children from low income families. She has worked with children individually and within small group settings. Dr. Donica has conducted historical research on handwriting instruction and is currently involved in research to determine how elementary education teachers are prepared at the college level to teach handwriting skills.
