Hebrew

Young students learning to write Hebrew script can now benefit from a new, child-friendly workbook that relies on established handwriting education principles to make Hebrew script easier to teach and learn. The book, K'tav B'kalut, offers a unique teaching order for the letters, provides tools for grasping the habits of Hebrew and is written by veteran Hebrew instructor Esther Goldenberg and Jan Z. Olsen, OTR, founder of Handwriting Without Tears, an award-winning handwriting program that is used in thousands of schools throughout the world.

"All of the positive benefits of Handwriting Without Tears have been incorporated into this new Hebrew workbook," says Jan Z. Olsen, OTR, founder of Handwriting Without Tears. "Designing this new program was a natural extension of our mission, and we feel confident that the workbook will bring a comfort level to both teachers and children, especially those who have benefited from the original Handwriting Without Tears program."

Providing a unique and simplified teaching order for 31 letters and letter variations, K'tav B'kalut teaches the easiest letters first, groups letters by their formation patterns, and immediately incorporates newly learned letters into words with previously learned letters throughout the book. These principles are similar to the English version of Handwriting Without Tears.

More importantly, K'tav B'kalut provides novel tools to assist students, particularly those who are learning Hebrew as a second language, learn the habits of Hebrew reading and writing. For example, the new letter is shown very large at the top right of the page and animal graphics face left, both of which help to encourage students learn to naturally write (and read) in the right to left direction.
